Please note, the IECEx CoPC Scheme is not intended for personnel who are involved with:
• Design or manufacturing of products where the output of their work is verified through testing, assessment or equipment certification
• Testing and certification bodies, where their competence is verified through the accreditation of a test laboratory or a certifying body
Upstream NEC 500 – 505 (API RP)
Upstream 500 505 API RP provides delegates with competency-based knowledge and understanding on the 500 505 API RP terminology and protection concepts utilized in explosive areas. Upstream 500 505 API RP covers the preparation, installation, inspection and maintenance of electrical/instrument equipment used in explosive atmospheres.
Topics include:
• Laws, standards, relevant API recommended practices (API RP 14F and API RP 14FZ), NFPA 70E, NEC and CFR regulations
• Preparation and installation of IEC and Ex electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres
• The inspection and maintenance of intrinsically safe and nonincentive equipment and systems in explosive atmospheres
• Overview of Area Classifications, Class, Divisions and Zones
• Gas groups and temperature classes and Protection types and concepts
• Installation of electrical equipment in Explosive Atmospheres or Hazardous Areas
• Assessment and Inspection of explosive atmosphere equipment
• Testing, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) and procedures
Upstream 500 505 API uses both theoretical and practical assessments to validate a candidate’s core competency to work safely with Electrical Equipment in Ex Atmospheres or Hazardous Areas.
Hazardous Area Combustible Dust Training
This two-day course provides private businesses within industrial Hazardous Areas (HA) awareness of the hazards posed by Combustible Dust (CD). The course teaches delegates strategies that they can use to ensure employee safety while in a CD environment. By recognizing the hazards and risks associated with CD and developing proper control strategies, organizations can help prevent or mitigate CD fires and explosions.
Topics include:
• Overview of CD in industry
• CFR/OSHA on dust inspections/maintenance
• NFPA 654 – Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions
• OSHA Subpart S Standards on Dust
• CFR/OSHA on Dust Inspections/Maintenance
Hazardous Area Combustible Dust Training uses both theoretical and practical assessments to validate a candidate’s core competency to work safely in Hazardous Areas where combustible dust can be found.
CompEx Training (EX 01-01)
This five-day course provides delegates with an understanding of the terminology and protection concepts for electrical/instrument equipment utilized in explosive atmospheres. It contains International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards and ATEX European Directives, including the preparation, installation, inspection and maintenance of electrical/instrument equipment used in explosive atmospheres. This course utilizes both practical and theoretical assessments, including all protection concepts listed below, in order to validate a delegate’s core competency to work safely in explosive atmospheres.
Topics include:
• EX01: The preparation and installation of Ex ‘d’, ‘n’, ‘e’ and ‘p’ electrical equipment
• EX02: The inspection and maintenance of Ex ‘d’, ‘n’, ‘e’ and ‘p’ electrical equipment
• EX03: The preparation and installation of Ex ‘i’ equipment and systems
• EX04: The inspection and maintenance of Ex ‘i’ equipment and system
CompEx Foundation
This two-day course is designed to give a full understanding of the requirements of working safely in a potentially explosive atmosphere through knowledge-based training and assessment. Targeted specifically at CompEx core competency and the promotion of safe working, this course aims to raise awareness of management’s responsibility when directing work of personnel who carry out the installations and maintenance of electrical equipment and apparatus in hazardous environments.
Topics include:
• Equipment Directive, EPS Regulations and Worker Directives
• Ignition Sources
• Flammables
• Characteristics of gases and vapors (IEC 60079-10)
• Characteristics of dusts (IEC 61241-10)
• Area Classifications
• Boundary Signage
• Categories and EPLs (IEC 60079-14)
• Equipment for use in Hazardous Areas
CompEx refresher
In this two-day course, delegates will review updated requirements for the installation of electrical equipment for use in hazardous areas. The first day concentrates on current directives and practices. On the second day, delegates are assessed in maintenance, installation and inspection.
